I would guess that your friend may be having panic attacks. Sometimes a panic attack can manifest itself as vertigo, and it may incapacitate your friend for hours at a time.

I also wonder if your friend might be anemic. A simple blood test would confirm this.

I am glad he has his condition checked out otherwise. He might also check to make sure he is eating well and taking a good multi-vitamin that has an extra dose of vitamin B12.

Dizziness is when the blood pressure suddenly drops for a moment, usually if the person stands up quickly. You need to get the name of the blood pressure medication, and see if "dizziness" is one of the side effects. If not, then look at any other "non-prescriptions" that are being taken to see if the combination of the two can cause dizziness. Certain cough medicines, antihistamines, and allergy pills mixed with blood pressure medications can create their own side effect. Because alcohol dehydrates the body, it may have been just enough to trigger the dizziness. Not enough water can also be a big factor to dizziness, it also can make you feel tired and if you don't drink enough water it puts a strain on the heart. Which in turn could be the reason for the sudden drop in blood pressure which caused the dizziness. Alot of people think they drink enough water, but in reality they really don't. The champagne was just a kick in the butt, to make him realize something else.
