I am a 58 year old female under extreme stress. My blood pressure has always been low; however, for the past few months, it has been above normal. For the last few days, it has ranged from 150/80 to 196/102, with a pulse between 80 and 96. I am 4'10" and weigh approximately 90 lbs. I have always suffered from migraine headaches and had one several days ago that left me in bed for two days. I am dizzy when I stand up or get out of bed and am slightly nauseated. Please advise.

This just an honest opinion as I am not a doctor. I would highly advise going to see your Family Doctor. The fact that you are a small body type and body weight, I am sure that your blood pressure will probably affect you more.

To have your blood pressure stay that high for multiple days, you do have a problem that needs to be looked at by your primary care physician, that is the only way to say if you are fine and just under extreme stress or if there is something else that may be causing it. You may just need anti-anxiety medicine or you just may need rest.

Hope this helps.

Your symptoms describe those of anxiety.

I do hope that you find a general practitioner to see you and advise you more professionally. I would also advise you to start getting daily exercise. It reduces stress and high blood pressure and will also lower your pulse rate.

Good luck to you, but do consult a doctor as soon as possible!

Your hypertension is likely stress induced, but regardless of the cause sustained high blood pressure levels require prompt medical treatment. Symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and headache are indicative of malignant hypertension, (dangerously high blood pressure).

Stress causes a release of adrenaline and cortisol which results in an elevated heart rate, constricted blood vessels and high blood pressure. In the short term, when the temporary stress is resolved, the body returns to normal. However, chronic (extreme) stress causes blood pressure to stay at a dangerously high level and can result in numerous physical consequences (organ damage, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, eye damage and aneurysms).

Contact your doctor immediately and have your symptoms properly evaluated and treated (or go to your local hospital emergency room if you do not have a personal physician). Please get the medical attention you need. Your long term stress issues should be discussed as well. These symptoms should be taken seriously. I wish you well.

Stress can cause those problems. It can really mess you up. I would recommend you do something to lower your stress. For example you could meditate or spend some time at a relaxing place. If you spend some time in a deeply relaxed state you will be more relaxed throughout the day. I listen to meditation sessions I downloaded from the internet. They contain special music that alters my brainwaves making it easy to become deeply relaxed.

If you do not want to meditate you could try yoga, tai chi or qigong. They are healing exercises that leave you feeling relaxed and energized. You should probably see a doctor. However they like to recommend pills. I know someone that takes at least 12 pills a day. His doctor never asks him to do things that would improve his health. I thought his doctor would be concerned about his lack of exercise and his bad diet but the doctor just gives him pills.
