What are some ways without medication that one could lower their blood pressure? I am wondering how one could lower their blood pressure using herbal supplements, lifestyle changes, meditation techniques, prayer and stress reduction, etc. |

I had 140/90 blood pressure about a year ago. I swore it was due to stress because I wasn't overweight or anything. I did 30 minutes on the stationary bike getting my heart rate up to about 135 beats per minute. I got on the bike 5 or 6 days a week. I did this for 2 months and my blood pressure went down to 122/82.
My doctor told me to eliminate salt-which I did for the initial 2 months but I eat salty foods now and it doesn't affect my blood pressure.
So basically, it was the daily aerobic exercise that lowered my blood pressure.
You could pick an aerobic form of exercise that you feel like you could consistently do and stick with.
My preference is the bike but you could run, swim, jump rope etc...
There are heart rate health charts you can find on the internet to find out an optimal heart rate for you to get your heart healthier and stronger. I'm 41 and my target heart rate was 135-140 beats per minute.
It's different for everyone's age group.
The stronger your heart muscle is, the easier time your heart will have pumping blood through your veins and body. When your heart muscle is weaker, it has to put forth more effort to distribute blood through your body and that can cause higher blood pressure. Good luck!

Always go for natural cures for blood pressure problems rather than going and spending for medication. Because medication can make you adapt for drugs and you get used to those drugs and that is not healthy.
1)Garlic is very helpful in reducing the high blood pressure.
2)You should minimize salt intake.
3)Losing weight can also have huge advantage in lowering the blood pressure because lots of fats deposit in the arteries can make obstruct the blood supply and adds extra pressure to the heart.
4)f you are meat lover than go for lean meat or poultry chicken.
5)Avoid alcohol.
6)Daily 20-30 minutes walk can also lower the pressure.
7)Dark chocolate also helps.

To add to excellent advice in answers above mine, firstly please be aware most people's 's blood pressure tends to go up as we get older. So do not assume you have a problem when you are sixty something because your blood pressure readings are higher than when you were thirty something. Almost everybody's will be higher over sixty than in their youth.
Secondly and very importantly can I recommend you purchase an instrument that you cam measure your own blood pressure with in order to find out if measures you take are working with you. There are plenty of them on sale, such as in pharmacists, some working automatically others you need to listen to but get one.
There are 2 important reasons for this. Firstly if you are getting alarmed over one reading perhaps taken in an isolated visit to doctors or an employment medical exam, that could be misleading because everybody's blood pressure goes up and down in response to physical exertion and/or emotional stress at that particular time and particularly when you go to a medical exam, you may be worried, this can have the effect of making your blood pressure readings much higher than they would if taken the following day when you are nice and relaxed at home.
Now can I advise the most important changes in lifestyle that have been proved to help get people's blood pressure down if properly effected.
1. If you smoke, cut down or preferably give it up
2. If you drink alcohol in excess cut down or better still go teetotal.
3. if you are lazy and do not take much exercise start taking exercise daily
4. if you are overweight, try to get your weight down
5. If you have a lot of stress in your life try to ease it (easier said than done I know)
6. If you take a lot of salt or saturated fat when you eat meals try to rediuce it substantially or cut it out totally.
So if any of those are applicable to you, try to make the change suggested.
Now can I talk about herbal remedies for high blood pressure that have been proved to work with some people.
Please can I emphasize some herb may work getting my blood pressure down but not work with you and likewise some herbs may work in getting your high blood pressure down but not mine, because we are all different. Also it can take several months after you first try some herbal remedy before you start to see a noticeable effect, so do not form any conclusion after just a week or two trial on yourself.
Regarding herbs, the following have been found in clinical trials to get most people's high blood pressure down :-
Hawthorn (the leaves or flowers of the plant)
Green tea (drink 2 or 3 cups per day and decaf might be better for you)
Bilberry (the leaves or dried fruit both work)
Garlic (add to your diet)
Oily fish such as sardines or pilchards
Metamucil (blonde psyllium)
Potassium (a good way to get that is from drinking sweet orange juice).
Be aware too there are some bogus claims about certain other alleged remedies sold for a high price for reducing blood pressure which are fakes or scams. The ones I have mentioned are products that have been proved to work with most people.
