It can happen to the best of people but it is a sign that your heart and blood vessels are in need of an examination. Orthostatic or postural hypotension occurs when you stand up and gravity causes blood to pool in your legs. This decreases blood pressure because there's less blood circulating back to your heart to pump. Common causes include diabetes, dehydration, bradycardia, heart valve problems and even some nervous disorders.

Those of us that have low blood pressure can tell you....you pass out. Lights go out and you wake up hurting rather badly. I actually had no clue when it happened to me that it was even coming. Generally if your blood pressure does drop that low, something else is going on such as dehydration, dieting, stress or lack of sleep. Sometimes this can be dealt with simply by watching how much you drink and eat and making sure you don't get run down. Other people need to be on medication and monitor it closely.
