What is a normal pulse rate for a woman 68 yrs old? I was just put on high blood pressure medication and this morning my BP was 137/88, but my pulse is reading 90... |

The pulse rate is along with your blood pressure an indicator of your overall health. Pulse rate does not vary much with age. The National Health Service in Britain state that a normal adults resting heart rate should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute. Was this result taken when you were resting or active. Obviously the pulse is lower when you are resting. If it regularly goes above 100 or below 50 you should see your Doctor. A healthy 68 year old that leads an active life can have a similar pulse rate to a younger woman but usually slightly lower. The pulse rate can fluctuate according to exercise, emotions and illness.
