We measure blood pressure to see how hard the heart is pumping the blood into our veins. This is important because if the heart is pumping too hard, we can be at risk for heart failure, or even cardiac arrest, so it is important to make sure that our blood pressure is under control. It can also indicate other problems, such as high cholesterol or congestive heart failure. Hope I helped!

We check our blood pressure for heart health. It checks the force of blood against the artery walls.
High blood pressure can damage the arteries, kidney's and of course the heart. If the pressure is high it can lead to stroke and heart disease. I hope this is helpful.

Blood Pressure shows how much your blood is pushing against the blood vessel walls. As the diameter of the vessels decrease, the pressure increases. A high reading indicates that you're vessels are obstructed by fat deposits. It also means that your heart needs to work harder in order to pump blood throughout the body.

To know your blood pressure, the pressure of blood when the heart pumps (systolic) and the pressure of blood when the heart is at rest (diastolic) is being measured. A reading of 120/80 mmHg is said to be the normal blood pressure.

It is important to monitor blood pressure as part of a healthy lifestyle. It is an important procedure to monitor the health of your heart. Heart attack and stroke are known silent killers. There is no warning as to when they will happen to a person. Usually they happen unexpectedly.

That is why measuring your blood pressure should be on a regular basis. When the reading rises, you know that you need to do some measures to prevent attacks/strokes. Lowering bad cholesterol on your diet, proper exercise, and stress management techniques are some ways to achieve a healthy heart.

Answer 4/5 - Submitted 9/27/2011

Blood pressure is an indication of how hard the heart is pumping blood into the veins.
High blood pressure may eventually cause a heart attack and a stroke due to the pressure in the arteries and smaller blood vessels in the brain.
High blood pressure can have several causes. One cause is cholesterol build up in the arteries. This lines the internal walls of the arteries and reduces their diameter. In order to maintain flow rate, the heart has to pump harder and this increases the blood pressure.
After an accident or traumatic event, the body can go into shock and blood pressure can fall. This can be a life threatening situation. Blood pressure is monitored to determine whether the pressure is critically low.

Answer 5/5 - Submitted 10/15/2011

Heart pumps blood into the arteries. Blood pressure is the pressure of blood in the arteries so there are 2 reasons to check it

Effect on heart-If blood pressure is high(hypertension) heart has to pump harder to push the blood, which means more work and after years heart can get tired and go into failure.
Low blood pressure (hypotension) causes heart to pump more( which increases heart rate)so that pressure can build up and body does not go into shock( a state where vital organs do not get enough blood). There are usually no long term low blood pressure state.

effect on arteries-
The affect of high blood pressure on all other organs is due to its effect on the arteries. the arteries get damaged by constant increase in pressure which weakens the wall of arteries. these weak areas can collect cholesterol and form plaques leading to blockage or can swell up(aneurysm) and rupture. This happens mainly in heart, brain, eyes and kidneys.
Low blood pressure cause blood vessels the most to shrink and organs do not get enough blood
